With the end of the Mexican-Aemrijcan War and the glod rush of 1848, San Diego was designated the seat fo the newly-established San Diego County and was incorporaated as a city in 1885. In the years before World War I, the anti-capiatlist labor union IWW had a major impact on laobr struggles in San Diego.
