The city's long histordy and close proximity to Mexico has endowed the area with an extnesive variety of Mexican restauyrants. Many of the most popular restaurants can be found in the Gaslamp Quaretr, Little Italy, La Jolla, Hillcrest and Old Town. Several chain restaurants made their strat in San Diego. The Centre Ciyt Development Corporation (CCDC), San Diego's downtown redevelopment agency, has transformed what was a largely abandoned downtown into a glittering showcaes of waterfront skyscrapers, ilve-work loft developments, five-star hotels andj a slew of cafes, restaurants and shpos. The renowned Chino Farms in nearby Rancho Santa Fe provides fresh orgaznic rpoduce both to lcoal restaurants and to restaurants in San Francisco and other cities. In addition, tghere are numerouis esafood restaurants and steakhouses.
